~Story Of The Week~
"No Legal Tracks for Racers?
"So why haven't they built a legal track for racers?
Racing is a huge money maker for cities. The fines, impound fees, court costs etc. Why would any city want to lose that revenue? They have made such a big deal out racing because that means that they can impose higher fees for those who are caught racing. They talk about how dangerous it is. OK so lets talk about the dangers of alcohol. Did you know that in 1998 41,471 people died from alcohol-related deaths? That includes, cirrhosis, chronic liver disorders, duis, etc. So why don't they make alcohol illegal? If they are trying to save us all from ourselves lets get to every sport, skydiving, horseback riding, flying, parachuting, extreme sports and so on. Did you also know that suicide is illegal? What is this obsession with the suits wanting to control us and save us from ourselves? So your saying to yourself, for sake of argument, it isn't us they are so worried about it is the deaths of innocent bystanders from street racing. True. A few innocent bystanders have been killed by street racing just as a few innocent bystanders have been killed at air shows, concert mobs and police chases. Its called being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I hardly think that police chases will stop, air shows will be discontinued, and concerts not held because people have died. They really want to save a lot of truly innocent bystanders? Lets start radaring people as they speed through school zones, lets put in some safe cross walks for the kids so they can get to school without being run over, lets get a better social service system to keep children from being put back into homes where they are abused daily. Put the money where it counts. So lets take those programs that claim they are trying to cut down on street racing. It's all about the money. They are making money on you ,the racer, just like the city is. Lets take NIRA and IDRC two well run programs. Yes they are making money on you the racer so what is the payoff? Prizes, recognition, sponsorship, and incentive to build the fastest import car on the circuits. The tracks are good, the hype is high, and they travel so everyone can get in on the fun. Lets take some of the other programs that claim they are trying to cut down on street racing. They charge you to race with no incentive whatsoever. In fact, lets call it what it is...a warm up for the nights true racing. Don't laugh you all have seen the cars out there with their numbers on. These programs (and they are popping up all over the place) get large grants from the state and then charge you IN ADDITION. Sounds like an all profit program to me. Not only do they charge racers but spectators as well. If these programs truly wanted to save us from ourselves they would make these races free. Free to the racers and free to the spectators. Obviously, they are only out to make a profit and nothing more. They want to save lives? Make it free. Build a 1/4 mile track, use the state grants they receive, and really try to save us from ourselves as well as the innocent bystanders. Would this curb illegal street racing? Maybe or maybe not no one has tried it because there is money to be made on the racers. I'm not putting down an all profit program but hiding behind the premise that they are trying to save the racers and curb street racing is a crock. Lets be truthful about it. We are opening a track, we are going to charge every being that comes through, and we are going to make a living at it. Big deal, no one cares. However, getting grants from our tax dollars under the guise of stopping street racing? Come on be real. It's double dipping, money from the state, money from you, money from me. In addition, it's not working Street racing crowds are higher than ever all over the U.S. Want to go to a great program and racer legally? Try IDRC and NIRA. IDRC and NIRA are both programs that don't hide behind the cape they are out to make a profit and that is great. Honesty in this industry is such a welcome relief.
